Hall Technologies CUSB3V1AP15 15 Meter USB 3.0/3.1 Gen 1 Javelin Active Optical Plenum Cable
Note:These cables are designed to extend USB 3.0/3.1 Gen1 signals on any platform.
However they can also support USB 1.1 and 2.0 legacy devices on Windows™ systems.
CUSB3V1AP* cables support transparent extension of USB 3.1 Gen1 SuperSpeed at data rates of up to 5 Gbps.
It is also downward compatible with USB 2.0 or 1.1 devices.
An additional 5 volt regulator on the receiver end will boost the power to compensate for power hungry USB cameras.
CUSB3V1AP* cables are compatible with virtually all USB 3.0 and 3.1 Gen1 devices and is a perfect solution for extending 4K videoconferencing cameras video capture docking stations and other highspeed data communication. They also work with USB 2.0 or 1.1 devices although this feature is only available for PCs running Windows™ and needs a driver installation. Driver installation is not required for extending purely USB 3.0 devices on any platform (PC Mac Linux). The cable is a lightweight hybrid of fiber and copper and is plenum rated to ensure compliance with modern building codes. The small cable ends can be easily pulled through most conduit and no additional power is required making the CUSB3V1AP* a true plugandplay solution.
How can I extend legacy USB 2.0 or 1.1 devices with this cable?
To answer this question first let’s review the differences in USB 3.0 and 2.0 at the signal level.
USB 2.0 devices use the 4 pins that you can easily see when you look inside a male Atype connector. USB 3.0 devices however do not use these pins instead they use their own dedicated USB 3.0 pins that are deep in the back of USB 3 connectors. The designers of USB 3.0 added these new pins in the back to allow backward compatibility so both USB 2.0 and 3.0 devices could be plugged into the same connector.
The CUSB3V1AP* cables actively extend the signals on the USB 3.0 pins using fiber optic cables therefore USB 2 or 1.1 devices are not generally supported.
However if your host is using Windows™ operating system and you want to extend legacy USB2.0 or 1.1 devices with this cable you need to install a Windows™ driver first. The driver is available for download under the Downloads tab on this page.
Note for extending purely USB 3.0 devices you don’t need to install any drivers and the cable supports all platforms be they Windows™ Mac™ Linux™ etc.
